Charles Christian Martin

Charles Christian Martin, 33, of DuBois, passed away at 7:56 A.M., Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at his residence.
Christian was a welder at GS Metals in Pinckneyville.  He was of the Catholic faith.  He was the Vice President of Steelworkers of America Local 7252.  He was a 1989 graduate of Beech High School in Hendersonville, TN and had attended SIU.  He was an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of Desert Storm serving as a Sgt in the eighty-second airborne division.  He served in the Tennessee National Guard from 1988 until 1991.
He was born August 17, 1970 at Madison, TN, the son of Chester and Carolyn (Christian) Martin Jr.
He married Susan L. Suraud on December 16, 1991 at Virginia Beach, VA and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of DuBois, his parents - Chester and Carolyn Martin Jr. of Hendersonville, TN, one sister - Kathryn Rose of Holt, MI, one brother - Chester Martin III of Alpharetta, GA, paternal grandmother - Sylvia Martin of Hendersonville, TN, maternal grandmother - Mildred Mayfield Christian of Gallatin, TN, mother-in-law - Pauline Suraud of Edwardsville, IL, Nieces - Eva and Elli Cline of Grand Ledge, MI, Melanie Rose of Holt, MI, Christy Renee Martin of Carthage, TN, Krista Jerde of Gladstone, MO and Elaina Kauzlarich of Edwardsville, IL, nephews - Eric Jerde of Gladstone, MO, Jacob Kauzlarich of Edwardsville, IL, Nicolas Martin of Alpharetta, GA, one uncle - Joseph Christian of Gallatin, TN, three sister-in-laws - Donna Jerde and husband Dan of Gladstone, MO, Nancy Novak of St. Louis, MO, and Sandy Kauzlarich and husband Dave of Edwardsville, IL, and cousin - DeAnn Christian Killion of Hendersonville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather - Chester Martin Sr., maternal grandfather - SFC Charles W. Christian and father-in-law - Robert Suraud.
Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Chapel Hill Cemetery at DuBois.
Military graveside rites were conducted.
